Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo, president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), said the concept of using waste to generate energy could soon be introduced in Pakistan and the ministries concerned would be informed about the technology.
In a meeting with the Pakistan Plastic Manufacturers Association delegation on Tuesday, he said that in Pakistan, Chinese innovation and the introduction of waste recycling were gaining traction.
“Pakistan’s exports are concentrated on only a few products and a handful of markets,” he said, stressing that non-traditional goods should be the focus of the country.
The FPCCI chief added that, as it was an important factor for the promotion of exports, there was a need to improve the ease of doing business further.
Members of the delegation of the Pakistan Plastic Manufacturers Association indicated that the association played an active role in bringing the country’s plastic industry to the international market.
The plastic industry has made a great contribution to Pakistan’s economic development, they said.
The sector was badly affected by the complex nature of taxes imposed by the Federal Revenue Board and the Sindh Revenue Board, which, they said, generally resulted in double taxation.
In addition, the situation of the CNIC affects the growth of the sector and creates barriers to supplies to different cities in Pakistan.
The conference ended with a proposal to establish a committee on the ease of doing business.
FPCCI Vice President Mohammad Athar Sultan Chawla and former FPCCI President Zakaria Usman also attended the meeting.
