Usman Bin Younos - Mechanical Engineer from Lahore has been appointed as the Region Leader for Asia Pacific by ASME - Startup Pakistan

Usman Bin Younos a young mechanical engineer from Lahore has been by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Usman is the youngest ever to serve in such capacity as well as the only South Asian to ever lead in this role. The region includes 27 countries, namely Australia, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, India, Pakistan, South Korea, Russia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Fiji Islands, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Nepal, New Guinea, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Georgia.

Usman is based in Lahore and holds a degree from the Lahore University of Engineering & Technology (UET Lahore). He comes from an engineering family where all his brothers and sisters are mechanical engineers, and his father is a mining engineer. For more than 15 years, Usman has been committed to ASME and has been instrumental in the growth and expansion of society in recent years with a very diverse collection of experiences. Usman is an entrepreneur, a photographer, a world traveler, an animal lover, and enjoys model aircraft design and flight.

With over 100,000 members and a presence in 140 nations, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers is one of the world’s largest engineering societies and the largest Mechanical Engineering Society in the world. Established in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a professional non-profit organization that allows cooperation, sharing of expertise and advancement of skills across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the engineer’s vital role in society. The codes and standards of ASME, journals, seminars, continuing education and professional development programs provide the basis for the advancement of technological information and the creation of a safer environment. The International Society of Interdisciplinary Engineers (ISIE) LLC, a new for-profit subsidiary to house business projects, has recently been founded by ASME to introduce new and creative products, services and technologies to the engineering community.

Usman says leading the largest area of society, which is very diverse in any sense of the word, is a huge responsibility. The legacy of Thomas Edison, George Westinghouse, Henry Ford and the likes, all of whom were members of ASME, is not an easy task to pursue. In our country, there is tremendous potential and great opportunities to serve the engineering community. In this position, his vision is to help advance the region’s engineering and science communities to support humanity through technology, entrepreneurship & innovation. Engineers are extremely responsible for shaping our planet’s future, and engineers have been doing so for centuries. In every area of life, the world owes a great deal to the engineering profession. Today, with space travel, air travel, smartphones, connectivity, nanotechnology, robotics, medical devices, engineering advances have made it possible, but the effort to solve humanity’s challenges continues.
