Reading Time: 1 min read

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) announced on Wednesday that bill printing for E-Abiana has begun in Layyah (a city in Punjab), finally replacing a decades-old system and a manual billing operation.

The digitized bill, on the other hand, ensures greater accountability and performance, according to PITB. Farmers will be able to pay Abiana through e-Pay Punjab, JazzCash, EasyPaisa, and bank Over-the-Counter (OTC) transactions.”

E-Abiana was created through a partnership between the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and the Punjab Irrigation Department (PID) for the purpose of streamlining and automating the water revenue collection system.

This system was first implemented as a pilot programme in Sheikhpura, Khanewal, Kasur, and Layyah, but it is now expected to be implemented across Punjab.

E-goal Abiana’s is to ensure overall accountability and to find ways to increase revenue by giving farmers a simple way to pay their water bills.

Furthermore, such a system must be implemented in other parts of Pakistan, with similar solutions, in order to synchronize overall growth, especially agricultural progress.
