On Wednesday, Ambassador Suh Sangpyo of the Republic of Korea paid a courtesy call on Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Syed Amin-ul-Haque in the federal capital.

The minister invited the Korean Ambassador to his office and addressed issues of mutual interest relating to information technology and telecommunications during the meeting.

The two sides agreed to expand their collaboration in the information technology and telecommunications sectors.

Haque said that Pakistan places a high premium on ties with the Republic of Korea. “The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications is taking steps toward digitalization. Pakistan’s information technology and telecommunications sectors are advancing rapidly,” he said.

He told the Korean envoy that Pakistan’s ICT export remittances increased to $1.512 billion in July-March of FY 2020-21, up 43.59 percent from US $1.053 billion in the same period last year.

“The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications is committed to providing telecom services throughout the region, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan (GB),” he said, adding that Pakistan wishes to benefit from Korea’s experience in the field of information technology.

Additionally, the minister urged Korea to assist Pakistan in designing and assembling smartphones.

“Korean companies can invest in Pakistan due to the favourable environment for foreign investment in the country, as well as the vital exchange of IT professionals and startups between the two countries.

The ambassador stated on several occasions that Korea desired to create a knowledge excess centre in Pakistan.

He also lauded the Information Technology Ministry’s efforts to promote information technology and telecommunications in the country.

The meeting was also attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
