Hubco has announced the appointment of Kamran Kamal as its new CEO. Hubco is Pakistan’s largest independent power producer (IPP).

Kamran took over the company from Khalid Mansoor, who headed it for eight years. Kamran has already worked for Hubco for six years as the CEO of Laraib Energy Limited, the company’s hydroelectric subsidiary.

He was previously Vice President of China Power Hub Generation Company (CPHGC), a joint venture between HUBCO and China Power International Holding (CPIH). Kamran’s appointment as the new CEO (from within the firm) demonstrates Hubco’s shareholders’ faith in its in-house talent.

“Pakistan’s energy landscape is brimming with opportunity. HUBCO’s unmatched technological knowledge, pioneering business approach, and strategic geographic presence endows us with an unmatched set of skills for realising these opportunities for our country,” Kamran Kamal stated.

“I am honoured to lead HUBCO in transforming our approach to generating long-term shared value without losing sight of our society’s future,” he added.

Kamran is an accomplished leader with more than 18 years of escalating responsibility and leadership experience in the energy, infrastructure, commodities, business development, and strategy sectors. He has been responsible for big capital projects, organisational capability development, and overall business delivery in both executive and board positions.

Kamran holds a Master’s degree from Harvard and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech in the United States of America.

Kamran was previously the Commodities Trade Head at Engro EXIMP FZE, where he was responsible for the company’s Fertiliser, Coal, Oilseeds, and Sugar trading portfolios. He was instrumental in the company’s expansion into new geographies and commodity portfolios. Kamran was also involved in significant energy and infrastructure projects during his career at Engro, including the Thar Coal Mining and Power Plant, the LNG Floating Terminal, and an RLNG-based power plant.

HUBCO will focus on keeping its market leadership position under Kamran’s leadership by focusing on renewable energy, a merchant market model for the power sector, and diversification into sustainable solutions.

His knowledge of the power business, regulatory environment, and expertise collaborating closely with important external players will help Hubco strengthen its position in the power sector.
