British Airways temporarily suspends direct flights to Pakistan

Reading Time: 2 mins read

British Airways has announced that direct flights to Islamabad will be temporarily suspended due to “operational reasons.”

It further stated that reports of British Airways flights being canceled owing to a lack of fuel at Islamabad International Airport are “incorrect.”

According to the CAA, the Station Manager of British Airways at Islamabad Airport notified the Airport Manager PCAA Islamabad by telephone that flights to Islamabad will continue to run till June 15th.

“However, British Airways has suspended flights to Islamabad from the 15th to the 30th of June 2022 due to operational reasons,” said PCAA, adding that the suspension is merely for operational reasons.

“In addition, the CAA has received a report from an aviation fuel supplier at Islamabad Airport, who confirmed that there is no shortage of fuel and that storage tanks are fully stocked,” it added.

British Airways will provide clarification in this regard, according to the aviation body. “The local management of British Airways in Islamabad works closely with the Airport Manager PCAA Islamabad,” the statement continued.

British Airways terminated its Lahore to London flight service earlier this month when the term of an agreement expired.

In October 2020, British Airways began flying between the two cities. The airline, on the other hand, will continue to fly between Islamabad and London.

After a 10-year hiatus, British Airways resumed direct flights to Pakistan in June 2019. In 1976, the carrier made its inaugural flight to Islamabad. Following a suicide attack at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad in September 2008, the airline halted operations in Pakistan. At least 60 people were murdered and more than 260 were injured.
